The 2017 Show

This year's Show will be held on Saturday 2nd September at the Village Hall.

It must be emphasised that the Show is open to all, not just members of the Club. In the usual Denton spirit, it is the taking part that is important, not the winning. There is a special class for "gentlemen".

The Schedule

FLOWER CLASSES (Grant Trophy)

(Exhibitors are asked to supply their own simple containers)

  1. 3 Stems of Chrysanthemums
  2. 3 Dahlias, mixed varieties
  3. Jug of Roses, mixed or one variety
  4. 1 Scented Rose
  5. 3 Stems Rudbeckia
  6. Vase of any Shrub in flower (one variety)
  7. Vase of mixed Foliage, minimum of 4 varieties
  8. Vase of Perennials, minimum 3 varieties
  9. Jug of Herbs, minimum of 3 varieties
  10. Vase of Cosmos
  11. Foliage Plant in a Pot
  12. Flowering Plant in a Pot
  13. Vase of Grasses, mixed or single variety
  14. A Single Sunflower

VEGETABLE AND FRUIT CLASSES (Skinner Trophy)

(Paper plates will be available for staging but are not compulsory)

  1. 5 Potatoes, one variety
  2. 3 Beetroot
  3. 3 Carrots
  4. 3 Onions
  5. 1 head of Sweetcorn
  6. 6 Runner Beans
  7. 6 French Beans
  8. 7 Cherry Tomatoes
  9. 5 Tomatoes, not cherry
  10. 1 Sweet Pepper
  11. 3 Courgettes
  12. 5 Eating Apples
  13. 5 Cooking Apples
  14. Plate of Autumn fruit (not apples)
  15. Sunday Lunch: A Box (max size 10” x 15”) of produce not exceeding 5 varieties.
    One variety may be fruit.
  16. Salad Box, (max 10” x 15”) not exceeding 5 varieties
  17. Any Vegetable not in the schedule
  18. 3 Tomatoes (washed)– on a plate – unnamed until after judging
    (To be judged on flavour alone by the Domestic Class Judge)

DOMESTIC CLASSES (Carden Trophy)

  2. 5 Individual Apple Pies
  3. 5 Egg Custard Tarts
  4. Olive and Sundried Tomato Loaf (Breadmakers may be used)
  5. 5 Finger Eclairs

  9. Jar of Chutney

  11. Gentlemen's Class – 7 Cheese Straws Recipe Provided

DECORATIVE CLASSES (Charnick Trophy)

(Flowers may be purchased for these classes)

  1. Arrangement Celebrating Dame Vera Lynn’s 100th Birthday max 60 cm/24” overall
  2. Foliage Arrangement including a frame - max 15” overall
  3. Buttonhole for a Wedding
  4. Photograph – “Farm Animals”
  5. Photograph – “Church”
  6. Painting or Drawing – “Garden Equipment”
  7. Drawing or illustration using Pencil, Pen and Ink, Pastel or Charcoal of your choice
  8. Hand Knitted or Crochet Item
  9. Decorated Plant Pot
  10. Bug Box/Hotel


There are no designated Children’s Classes. Exhibits in any class from entrants aged under 14 are encouraged and should be marked as such. They will be eligible for award in their own right.

The new “Sandie Jones Trophy” will be awarded for the best Individual Flower in any class (not Decorative).

REGULATIONS FOR EXHIBITORS

All classes are open to anyone eligible for the class. All exhibits must be the bona-fide produce of the exhibitor, excluding decorative classes.

The decision of the judges is final. The committee, in consultation with the judges, may withhold any points in any class and award points at their discretion.

Entry Fees
The entry fee is 10p per class.

Trophies
Trophies will be awarded to the Club member with the most points in each category. The overall Show Trophy, which is open to all, will be presented to the entrant with the highest total points.

One point will also be awarded for each class entered.

All entry forms, duly completed and accompanied by the total entrance fee, should be handed in by 7 p.m. on Thursday 1st September.
Although late entries may be accepted on the day, it would be much appreciated if entries could be in by the designated time.
All exhibits must be staged ready for the judges between 9.00 a.m. and 11.45 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Doors will close between 12 noon and 2.30 p.m. for judging.

Doors open to the public at 2.30 p.m. Teas will be served.
Exhibitors who do not wish their produce to be auctioned will be asked to remove them before the Auction. Please DO NOT remove them until requested.
